Guild Events 2015
Mike Peters writes
On behalf of all members who attended the Swindon Event and
the council, I offer public thanks to Ian Gumm taking on the organisation of a
Guild weekend. I was unable to attend as I was on tour in Arnhem but I have
heard nothing but positive feedback from everybody who attended. Thank you Ian
and thanks are also due to Chris Scott for delivering what I believe was a top
class battlefield walk - that’s what Guild Fellows do isn’t it? These weekends
don’t just happen it takes commitment and enthusiasm to produce the goods and
the result adds great value to the Guild itself. The weekend included a
validation opportunity that a number of members grabbed with both hands, well
done to those that progressed closer to achieving badged status - I look
forward to a bumper crop at the AGM. The validation would not have been
possible without the efforts of the Validation Secretary Alison Hine and the
validators that gave up their time to validate their peers - thank you all.
More validation weekends are at the planning stage - to those that have offered
to run them, the bar has been set high! This event follows in the wake of the
Forgotten Front Recce weekend run by Simon Worrall which was also a huge
success, thank you to Simon for coordinating and administering a very
successful recce that also attracted a lot of positive comment. We can now look
forward to the Dublin weekend organised by Kay Neagle, the programme looks
superb.

New Validation Package
Tim Saunders writes:
Members will be aware that the latest iteration of the
Validation Brochure including some new and replacement assignments is due to go
live at the beginning of next month. The Validation Team have, however,
discovered during the process of updating the associated Validator’s Handbook
and having seen how candidates increasingly interpret the outcomes and advice,
that we need to enhance clarity for both existing and new assignments.
Consequently we are re-wording certain aspects of the assignments in the Brochure.
This process will now inevitably delay the launch of the new package of
assignments by a couple of months.
The existing Validation package has been successful and has
served us very well over the last eleven years. This is, therefore, a part of the
process of continuing and considered evolution not revolution. Be assured that
the package will remain focused on aspects of guiding and guiding related
business and is still targeted at the guide who has experience of our craft.
Validation will also continue to be vocational and pitched at NVQ 3 level.
The V Team are not aware of anyone currently working on the
new assignments but if they are, they should over the next couple of months
concentrate their efforts on the assignments that have not changed. If in doubt
please contact a member of the V Team.
It is intended to publish the new suite of Validation
documentation and launch the package during June 2015 at the latest.
