Waterloo Commemorative
Book
Secretary writes:
I have received the following communication from a company
called Extraordinary Editions which may be of interest to some members:
"Extraordinary Editions are the world’s most unusual
military publisher, specialising in large format, limited editions,
made by hand and designed to last for generations.
I am writing to introduce our latest work, the Waterloo
Commemorative Anthology.
An extraordinary event demands an extraordinary work to
commemorate it and the anthology is just that.
Seven years in the making the book contains over 500
pages, 300 of contemporary writing and 200 of illustrations,
many rare and some never published before. They are
printed on a stunning acid free, archival quality paper and bound by hand in
leather.
I have enclosed our e-brochure and for more information
please visit our website at: www.extraordinaryeditions.com
We are trying to bring our work to the attention of
Waterloo enthusiasts worldwide and I am writing to Waterloo tour guides to see
if they would promote
the anthology to their tour customers.
In return for handing out our brochures on your tours we
would pay a 10% sales commission on any order received as a consequence.
[ This is most easily achieved by putting their company
stamp on our brochures before handing them out ]
I was hoping that either the Guild of Battle Field Guides
could supply me with a list of guides who might be interested, or might pass
this offer
on to your members."
If you are interested please get in touch with the company
directly.

The Gurkhas - 200 Years of
Service to the Crown
Ryan Gearing writes:
I was present at the launch of the commemorative book “The Gurkhas
200 Years of Service to the Crown” by Major-General Craig Lawrence CBE last
week. The guests (who included fellow members Clive Harris and Julian Whippy)
were welcomed in the library at RUSI after the Brigade of Gurkhas Memorial
Service march from Wellington Barracks down the Mall to the statue in
Whitehall. After this we were given a presentation on the history of the
Brigade of Gurkhas from the author, Major General Craig Lawrence and supported
by Field Marshal Sir John Chapple, Brigadier (Retd) Chris Bullock, Major (Retd)
Gordon Corrigan, Colonel (Retd) William Shuttlewood (Director Gurkha Welfare
Trust) and Gavin Edgerley Harris (Curator of the Gurkha Museum). Obviously
there was a lot of discussion about recent events in Nepal and it was highlighted
that the Gurkha Welfare Trust is ideally placed with its support network
and infrastructure to assist the other aid agencies in the relief effort.
Here is a link with Joanna Lumley talking about the book,
Gurkhas and the recent events in Nepal. https://t.co/4wVQaXADUr
Validation Autumn 2015
Tim Saunders writes:
Following on from the Cranwell weekend in September the
Dieppe Validation weekend will take place over the weekend 28/29 November
2015. Primarily aimed at those candidates on the Near Continent it will
be open to all other candidates, as time in the programme permits. As Dieppe is
within striking distance, halfway (ish) between Normandy and the Somme we hope
to see plenty of members coming forward for validation from those locations.
There will, however, be a one day Validation event in SE England over the
weekend 14/15 November in order to fill the void left by the move of the AGM
and its associated validation opportunity to February 1916.
Details of both events to follow but expressions of interest
to Alison Hine please valsec@gbg-international.com
Even though the focus of the Dieppe weekend is very much
validation it is intended to run a low key battlefield tour on the Sunday in
such time as is available before dashing to the ferry.
Best Regards
