A Guild Council meeting was held in London last week. The minutes are attached.

New Validation Package

Tim Saunders writes:

Members will be aware that the latest iteration of the Validation Brochure including some new and replacement assignments is due to go live at the beginning of next month. The Validation Team have, however, discovered during the process of updating the associated Validator’s Handbook and having seen how candidates increasingly interpret the outcomes and advice, that we need to enhance clarity for both existing and new assignments.  Consequently we are re-wording certain aspects of the assignments in the Brochure. This process will now inevitably delay the launch of the new package of assignments by a couple of months.

The existing Validation package has been successful and has served us very well over the last eleven years. This is, therefore, a part of the process of continuing and considered evolution not revolution. Be assured that the package will remain focused on aspects of guiding and guiding related business and is still targeted at the guide who has experience of our craft. Validation will also continue to be vocational and pitched at NVQ 3 level.

The V Team are not aware of anyone currently working on the new assignments but if they are, they should over the next couple of months concentrate their efforts on the assignments that have not changed. If in doubt please contact a member of the V Team.

It is intended to publish the new suite of Validation documentation and launch the package during June 2015 at the latest.

Swindon Weekend

Alison Nine writes:

The Swindon validation event was a great success thanks to the organization of Chris Scott and Ian Gumm.  Four people passed Assignment One: Emma White, Anthony Rich, Chris Cherry and Peter McLelland; Robin Burrows-Ellis and Anthony Rich passed Assignment Five; and  Andrew Thompson  and Robin Burrows-Ellis were successful with Assignment Six.  A very good haul of Validation passes! Commiserations to those who were not successful this time round and hope you will try again soon.   Validations took place on the Saturday morning and early afternoon and then the peace (apart from the traffic) of the little Cotswold town of Lechlade was shattered by Chris Scott recounting the blood-thirsty events of one of the lesser known Civil War battles.  Not sure what the local populace made of it but it was certainly enjoyed by all the guides present.  The evening meal was followed by a quiz which turned out not to be as fiendish as feared but certainly exposed some gaps in British history knowledge!  Sunday morning saw more validations before everyone departed at lunchtime.  In the words of Chris Scott: this weekend was exactly what we always envisaged the Guild would become, a group of professional friends pulling together to help each other develop our skills amid enjoyable times and good fellowship.
