Naval & Military Press
DVD of Battalion Records
Andy Thompson writes:
22 guild members have taken advantage of the ‘early bird’
£250 (+ VAT) offer and, given the numbers N&M, have extended the deadline
for the bulk order. Thus any other members interested in buying the DVD through
the guild are asked to contact Andy Thompson at info@eyewitnesstours.com by close of
business Thursday January 1st 2015. The DVDs will be available during the first
two weeks of the New Year.
Australian War Memorial
Jim Tanner writes:
Seeing the Naval & Military Press publication of unit
war diaries from the Great War, while extremely welcome, reminded me that the
Australian Government provides all of their war records online and for free.
Members might know this but, if not, they should look at the
Australian War Memorial website at www.awm.gov.au
and follow the obvious links. It is a gold mine of information and includes, in
pdf format:
All Australian official histories of the Great War and
including Charles Bean's very readable single volume.
All other published histories.
All formation and unit war diaries for both World Wars,
Korea and Vietnam.
And a lot more. Dealing with the staff at the Australian War
memorial is also a delight and they are extremely helpful with enquiries. All
their soldiers' war records have survived and hard copies can be obtained for a
fee. So could microfilm copies of unit war diaries, although these are no
longer available in this digital age.
