Guild Validation Day Stevenage 20 May 15

Mike Peters writes:

Yesterday I attended the Validation Day held in Stevenage hosted by Guild Partners Battle Honours Ltd. The event was a great success and has proved that there is an appetite among members for similar validation sessions in the future. This follows on from the positive feedback after we facilitated validation on the Somme in January. Your Council has asked the Validation Team to programme more of this style of event in the coming year and in 2016 - the more members we have validation the better. We will however still be featuring validation as part of our core weekends and ensuring that these are not compromised by dedicated validation sessions. The Stevenage session also raised questions about the cost of attending validation, the Council will issue a policy on this shortly.

It was a very successful day, thank you to everybody who attended, there were a lot of new faces at Stevenage. Well done to those who passed their assignments and progressed toward their badge and a thank you to the validators who gave up their time to help their fellow members tackle their assignments. Finally, a big thank you to our hosts Julian Whippy and Clive Harris at Battle Honours. The event was subsidised by BHL and ably administered by Julian, a great example of what the Guild Partnership scheme is all about. I look forward to seeing you all at the next Guild Event.

Jellifenellie Books

Richard Burgess writes:

I have negotiated a deal with Jellyfenellie Books for the GBG. The company will offer a ten per cent reduction in price plus free postage to UK addresses. The members just need to indicate their membership or drop your name in a message to us when they go to our Amazon Storefront.

Validation via Skype

Tim Saunders writes:

The VTeam has conducted another iVal Assignment 1 with James Wilson of Kenya. His subject was the attack in February 1916 on Salaita Hill near Tsavo and the boarder of German East Africa and Kenya. I was a subject that I knew little about but was a fascinating compact action – ideal for Assignment 1.  Our Chief Validator Chris Finn summed it up when he said ‘a pass despite some challenging technical difficulties’. As with other long range iVals, including the USA and Australia, it was readily apparent to experienced validators that James could present and knew his stuff, few concessions had to be made for the technology! Well done James.

Annual Subscription

Jo Hook writes:

There are still some members who have not renewed their subscription this year but have not informed me that they wish to leave the Guild. If you have not yet paid but wish to remain a member please could you pay asap. Full details as to how to do this are on the website at http://www.gbg-international.com/bank_account.html
