Annual Subscriptions
Jo Hook writes:
It’s that time again to start thinking about membership
renewal. The window for membership renewal this year will be open from 1st
January 2016 to 1 March 2016. The payment remains the same at £75.00 per
year. There are various methods of payment you can use. We are
urging people more and more to pay their subscription electronically by BACs or
standing order – it is faster, can be tracked by us and more efficient from an
administrative perspective. However, we also realise that the “good old
fashioned” cheque is still the preferred way for some and will accept these but
we will be increasingly moving towards electronic payment for the future.
Guild bank account details can be found on the website along with a step by
step guide on how to pay electronically. Cheques should be made payable to
the Guild of Battlefield Guides Ltd. Details can be found at http://www.gbg-international.com/bank_account.html
)
If paying by BACs please ensure you use your name and
membership number as a reference so we can identify your payment and please
don’t forget to email the Membership Secretary at mbr.sec@gbg-international.com
to confirm payment has been made.
If you do not wish to renew your membership please inform
the membership secretary so that she can carry out the necessary administrative
process.
Validation at the Annual
General Meeting
Tim Stoneman writes:
Guild members wishing to be validated for Assignments 1, 5
and/or 6 at the AGM should email me (valsec@gbg-international.com) by
29 December in order for the validation sessions to be arranged and fitted into
the weekend's programme.
Members wishing to submit written assignments prior to the
AGM are reminded that the Validation manual states: "Candidates must allow
at least a clear month between submission of assignments to the ValSec and the
Friday before the Guild AGM if they are anticipating the award of the Badge at
that AGM. There will be no assessment of written assignments at the AGM."
Thus the deadline for submission of written assignments by those hoping
to be awarded the Badge at the AGM is also 29 December
ETOA Cards 2016
Secretary writes:
I have received the following note from ETOA:
As Christmas approaches we have now closed applications for
the ETOA Tour Guide ID card for the 2015 season and are in the process of
updating the site for the 2016/17 season.
The site will reopen for applications for the 2016/17 season
after the holiday period on Monday 4th January 2016.
To clarify, all members whether badged or not, may apply for
ETOA Cards through the Guild. When completing the application form on the ETOA
website note the sponsoring organisation as the Guild. Cards are sent through
to me and I then post them on to the member. Please note only paid up members
may apply for cards.
Will Townend Award
Secretary writes:
Members are reminded that the closing date for submission of
their nomination for the Will Townend Award is 15th January 2016. Please submit
your vote by email to the Secretary, the ethos behind the award and the
criteria for nomination is published on our website at: http://www.gbg-international.com/guild_awards.htm
Please take the time to read the criteria and to nominate a
fellow member - Only members of the Guild may vote and no seconder is required,
this is a members vote.
The Will Townend Memorial Award commemorates the unselfish
contribution made to the GBG by the late Will Townend. The trophy was donated
to the GBG by Will’s fellow Battlefield Guides at Anglia Tours.
Award Ethos The award honours the memory of the late Will
Townend, in particular his willingness to share his extensive technical
knowledge of Artillery and his wider knowledge of battlefields in general with
his fellow Battlefield Guides.
It is also intended that those nominated for the award will
be recognised as selfless members of the GBG who freely and unselfishly share
their knowledge with their peers.
Qualification Period & Criteria The Will Townend Award
is an annual award that will be presented retrospectively in recognition of
conduct over the preceding year. This award is restricted to GBG members. All
categories of GBG Membership are eligible to be nominated for this award.
Voting Procedure Prior to the AGM, usually in the early
Autumn, the Secretary will call upon the Membership (of all categories) to
nominate for the Award.
All members of all categories will then have the
opportunity to vote on a one member, one vote basis.

History TV’s Battle of the Bulge series covering the Battle for St Vith and the
